Children’s Oral Health and Pronamel for Kids

Introducing NEW Pronamel Toothpaste for Kids
For young patients, their teeth are more vulnerable to disease from infancy.1 This is because babies and children have enamel that’s softer and 50% thinner than that of adults.1 In addition, popular children’s snacks, such as juice, cookies, fruit snacks, candy, chocolate milk and more, often contain sugar, which can turn into acid and demineralize enamel, contributing to tooth decay.1 Introduce your patients to Pronamel Toothpaste for Kids, a daily toothpaste for children over the age of two that helps keep their teeth strong and healthy.

The Importance of Using a Flouride Toothpaste for Children
Early prevention is important to help protect younger patients from cavities, which is why parents and caregivers should choose a flouride toothpaste with their children once their first teeth come in.2 Our mouths contain bacteria that feed on dietary sugar, producing acid that leads to cavities—the most common disease among children and adults worldwide.2 Flouride helps prevent enamel erosion in children and adults.2 It protects your patient’s teeth by making their enamel stronger and more resistant to acid attacks, reducing the risk of decay and potentially even helping to reverse early signs of it.2 If your patients are seeking toothpaste recommendations from their healthcare provider, recommend an toothpaste designed by dentists, formulated for children like Pronamel for Kids.

Oral Health Tips for Children
Encourage your patients who are parents and caregivers to adopt these healthy oral habits for their children:3
Cleaning Their Children’s TeethBaby teeth are at risk for decay as soon as they appear. Cavities in toddlers and infants are typically referred to as Early Childhood Caries or Baby Bottle Tooth Decay—a form of decay that occurs in the upper front teeth. Parents can prevent this by cleaning their children’s teeth correctly as they age:3
- Encourage your patients to start cleaning their baby’s mouth by gently wiping the gums with a damp washcloth or gauze pad.
- Parents with children under the age of three should begin brushing their teeth twice daily as soon as teeth appear, using a smear of fluoride toothpaste about the size of a grain of rice.
- For children aged three to six, instruct parents to brush their children’s teeth twice daily using a kid’s toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste until they can brush on their own. If the child has two or more teeth that touch, parents should also clean between their teeth daily. Remind parents to supervise brushing and ensure children avoid swallowing toothpaste.
Promoting Regular Dental VisitsEncourage patients with children to schedule an appointment for their baby as soon as their first teeth come in.This first visit should occur within six months of the appearance of their first tooth and before their first birthday. Let patients know what they can expect during their child’s first dental appointment, such as examining their mouths, discussing any oral injuries, and discussing teething or pacifier use.3
Emphasizing the Importance of FluorideEncourage patients to discuss their child’s fluoride needs with you, as fluoride toothpaste helps protect teeth from tooth decay.3
Lastly, encourage patients to brush their children’s teeth with a fluoride toothpaste like Pronamel for Kids.
