Meet the speakers

Prof. Nicola West

Prof. Nicola West, Professor and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (Periodontology) is affiliated with the University of Bristol. Nicola is the Secretary General of the European Federation of Periodontology, and President-elect of the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Charlie Parkinson

Dr. Charlie Parkinson is the Medical and Scientific Affairs Director for Haleon. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Associated Editor for the Journal Preventative Dentistry, with over 70 peer reviewed publications in the field of oral care.

Dr. Rupert Austin

Dr. Austin is a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Prosthodontics at King’s College London. He specializes in the aesthetic restoration and replacement of natural teeth using advanced technologies and drives innovations in digital dental practices. Dr. Austin holds a PhD in Enamel Erosion and multiple fellowships, including with the Higher Education Academy. He has also served as President of the Odontology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and is a member of the board of the Erosive Tooth Wear Foundation.

Prof. Koula Asimakapoulou

Professor Koula Asimakopoulou is a Professor of Health Psychology and serves as the Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange at the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology at Oxford Brookes University. She is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a member of the Health Care Professions Council, specializing in health psychology and chronic illness management.

Prof. Sarah Baker

Professor Sarah Baker is a Professor of Psychology as applied to Dentistry at the University of Sheffield and a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. Prof. Baker holds honorary positions at University College London and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.

Professor Søren Jepsen

Professor Søren Jepsen is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontology, Operative, and Preventive Dentistry at the University of Bonn, Germany. He received his dental and medical degrees from the University of Hamburg and a MSc in Periodontology from Loma Linda University. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an elected member of Leopoldina. Prof Jepsen chaired the Department of Periodontology at the University of Bern and led the Clinical Research Unit 208 at the University of Bonn. He has served on the executive committee of the European Federation of Periodontology, including as president. Prof Jepsen is an associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and has published extensively in his field.

Prof. Manal Awad

Prof. Manal Awad earned her BDS from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, a Master’s in Dental Public Health from the University of Alberta, Canada, and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from McGill University. She is the former president of the International Association of Dental Research (UAE section) and served on several editorial boards, including Journal of Dental Research and Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology Journals.

Prof. Ana Cecilia Aranha

Prof. Ana Cecilia Aranha is a professor in the graduate programs of Restorative Dentistry and Laser Therapy. She served as an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo (FOUSP) from 2005 to 2023 and coordinates São Paulo Dental Studio clinics and training centre and the Laser in Dentistry course at São Leopoldo Mandic.

Dr. Ebrahim Patel

Dr. Ebrahim "Ebi" Patel is the Clinical Manager of the Wits Oral Health Centre, the clinical training platform of the School of Oral Health Sciences at Wits University. He holds a BDS and MScDent (Endodontics) from Wits University, earned in 2008 and 2014, respectively. Ebi has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Hugo Retief Award (IADR SA) and the South African Dental Association Leadership Medal.

Dr. JoAnn Gurenlian

Dr JoAnn Gurenlian is the Director of Education, Research, & Advocacy for the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). She is also a Professor Emerita for the Department of Dental Hygiene at Idaho State University, Fellow in the ADHA, Affiliate Academic Fellow in the American Academy of Oral Medicine, and Past President of ADHA and the International Federation of Dental Hygienists. Dr. Gurenlian is the author of over 350 papers in dental hygiene, dental and medical publications and has conducted over 650 presentations at regional, national, and international events.

Dr. Ajay Bajaj

Dr. Ajay Bajaj, a renowned endodontist, cosmetic dentist and implantologist with nearly three decades of experience. He earned his BDS from Government Dental College, Mumbai, and his MDS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics from Nair Hospital Dental College. Awarded Best Post-Graduate National Student in 2001, he is the External Professor and Chief Course Director at Jaume I University, Spain, and Professor of Practice at D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai. Founder of Euro Dental Academie and the only Gold Member of Style Italiano Endodontics from India, Dr. Bajaj has performed over 30,000 root canal treatments and 4,000 implants. He is also an R&D consultant, prolific author, and fitness advocate.
